EXCELLERAT and Horizon Results Booster: A Strategic Collaboration for Advancing HPC

In the dynamic field of high-performance computing (HPC), collaboration and strategic support are crucial for driving innovation and maximizing research impact. The Centre of Excellence EXCELLERAT exemplifies this through its partnership with the Horizon Results Booster (HRB), an initiative by the European Commission designed to enhance the dissemination and exploitation of research results. This blog explores how EXCELLERAT, with HRB’s support, amplifies its outcomes and contributes to the broader Engineering community.

The Horizon Results Booster: Enhancing Research Impact

The Horizon Results Booster is an initiative by the European Commission that
supports EU-funded projects in maximizing the impact of their research. The HRB offers expert support in three main areas:

1.     Portfolio Dissemination and Exploitation Strategy

    • Identifying and creating portfolios of research and innovation (R&I) project results.
    • Helping projects design and execute dissemination plans.
    • Assisting projects in improving their exploitation strategies.

2.     Business Plan Development

    • Assisting in the creation of robust business plans to ensure the commercial viability of research outcomes.
    • Including market analysis, value proposition, and business model design.

3.     Go-to-Market Support

    • Organiaing workshops and training sessions to enhance participants’ skills in intellectual property rights (IPR), pitching, and innovation management. In the Go-To-Market support are also included business services (co-designing a plan for commercial development, feasibility studies to assess potential business plans, support in the creation of spin-offs and start-ups); examining exploitation/business implementation options and introduction to non-EU funding opportunities available.

Collaboration between EXCELLERAT and HRB

EXCELLERAT’s collaboration with the Horizon Results Booster showcases the benefits of strategic support in research and innovation. The services provided have offered EXCELLERAT valuable resources and expertise to enhance its dissemination and exploitation efforts.
Key aspects of their collaboration include:

Joint Dissemination and Exploitation Strategy

Through HRB, EXCELLERAT has developed a comprehensive dissemination and exploitation strategy. This strategy identifies key stakeholders and target audiences for EXCELLERAT’s research outcomes and outlines a plan to engage them effectively. By clustering with other related projects, EXCELLERAT can leverage synergies and amplify its impact across the engineering and HPC communities through large-scale simulation workflows and AI-driven solutions.

Enhanced Business Planning

The HRB’s business plan development support has been instrumental in ensuring that EXCELLERAT’s innovations are not only scientifically sound but also commercially viable. This includes conducting market analysis, defining the value proposition, and designing sustainable business models. These efforts are crucial for translating research results into market-ready solutions that can benefit the industry.

Capacity Building and Training

Participation in HRB’s capacity-building workshops and training sessions has equipped EXCELLERAT’s team with advanced skills in dissemination and exploitation. These sessions cover a range of topics, from effective communication strategies to intellectual property management, providing the team with the knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of research impact.

Conclusion

The support provided to EXCELLERAT by the Horizon Results Booster demonstrates the value of strategic assistance in maximising research impact. Through collaborative efforts in dissemination, exploitation, and capacity building, EXCELLERAT is advancing high-performance computing for engineering applications, particularly in large-scale simulation workflows and AI-driven solutions. This collaboration not only benefits the EXCELLERAT project but also supports the broader objectives of the European research and innovation ecosystem. As EXCELLERAT continues to advance the capabilities of HPC, support from initiatives like the Horizon Results Booster will be essential in converting research excellence into practical solutions.
